Digital for Fish: Snakes Say Hisss!

Here's a sort of review (mostly reiteration of the Terrorbird blurb)
"I first found these guys during the Snakes on a Plane hysteria..."

Digital for Fish is a smallish blog (smaller than this one?!) mostly dedicated to music...

Collegian:Famous Class

"For people who believe music should be an insensible wave, twisting, turning and crashing through emotions, thoughts and ideas, truly believe in the essence that is Boogie Boarder."
Mmmmm that has a nice tone to it, here's the little piece they're using to introduce it on the main page:

Well anyway, other things are going on, I know I've promised documentary promo videos before but I think there should be something soon soon, so hold your breath.

A whole bunch of Snakes reviews

Here's a Review from a blog called Diskant
"A few hours (and a 2am phone call to the obligatory '80s dance music aficionado friend) later we had deduced that the melody to the 7th track on Snakes Say Hisss!'s self-titled debut record sounded like the chorus to Taylor Dayne's dance pop mega-hit 'Tell It To My Heart.'...Bonus: Snakes Say Hisss! comes lovingly packaged in a beautiful screen-printed zine."

Here's a Review from a blog called Idolator
Here are a few comments people added to the review as well...

Also Here's a Review from a blog called The Tripwire
"Hipsters will fall head over heels for these fellas, but fortunately their music has enough substance to keep the rest of us entertained as well...The album's sound doesn't differ much, but with such limited instrumentation they don't have many other directions to try. That isn't a bad thing at all, as sometimes you just want a fun, danceable synth-pop record. That is exactly what you get from Snakes Say Hisss! Try not to lump these kids in with the eight billion other silly-named hipster bands."

There's also a nice photo page @ http://benrowland.smugmug.com. There are photos of Snakes, the Spirit Marines and Babewatch - a spin-off with members of the Spirit Marines

Snakes good time in Earlham College IA

This was a while ago, I'll make no bones about the fact that I'm lazy and have other hobbies...

Jamies says he flipped into the crowd and the crowd caught him (that's 1 for 2), and there was a naked guy on stage for a bit...Oh yeah and the guys from KLSU 91.1 LSU Radio want boogie boarder and snakes to come around. It sounds like that show would be nice nice...maybe I'll try and go too...?

P.S.

Side One: Track One - Famous Class Review

So this is pretty fuckin nice. Jamie showed me this review of Famous Class on the blog "Side One: Track One." John Laird is the writer from Texas who reviews music. He has a few things to say that aren't the typical recation, so its certainly worth a look. Here's the overall Famous Class review part, as opposed to the individual band reviews (and as always, click the title or pictures to go there and read it).

"It's been awhile since I took a moment to profile a label so today I am bringing you all of the fanciness that is Famous Class. Created in 2003 by Cyrus and Perry Lubin the label has put together a lineup that is pretty diverse and a catalog that includes comics, zines, and hand printed shirts which help cover the artistic ambitions of everyone that is involved with Famous Class. Personally I am all about hand printed shirts and that probably would have been enough to inspire me to spread the good word about FC but the music is what it's all about and it is pure quality stuff. The best part is you get a little bit of everything: if you want some synth pop then Snakes Say Hisss! won't disappoint, if you are looking for some experimental garage rock then Boogie Boarder is for you or if you want some garage rock with less emphasis on experimental then The Huxtables are eager to please. All in all there is a lot to love so take some time to check out the tight knit community over at Famous Class."

CMJ/NYC

Everything went well. I sort of showed up for the last four songs of Snakes after Boogie Boarder had played 'cause the night before went well too. But Terrorbird friends were there and some of the other bands sounded cool. I liked Forget Cassettes a lot. They were sort of just rock, but pretty versitle/dynamic. The drummer was totally intense as well. Other than that there was sort of just a lot of shameless begging for free drink tickets.

*I left that one without a link so you could see it full size. If it shows up as nonsense text, just reload the page.
Anyway, I gotta go get some breakfast and maybe some sort of motivation.

Boogie Boarder goes for radio adds Today

Today's the day we see what national college radio has to say about the Boogie Boarder release "What Riding Waves is All About."

So far a DJ on 88.9 Irvine, California played Spaghetti Snorter, but that was back on 10/17. Also I found this sweet website that tracks bands and when they're played on certain stations around the country and Boogie Boarder is on the site as a band to search, lets see here...FMQB: Modern Rock Specialty Spins E-Tracking

Well now they're #1 over TV on the Radio among other things. Sam and Jamie (and no one else I know) is gonna like this, but kill all that TV on the Radio noise (besides the fact that they're illmatic), because...

Note the Grizzly Bear, Bonnie Prince Billy, Rapture, Xiu Xiu, Ratatat, Mew, Bright Black Morning Light and (I'm sorry) Yo La Tengo. Its on bitches, and you haven't even seen the live show yet.

Music-versity:Snakes Say Hisss! - "I'll Be Lovin You"

Here are snips from the Music-versity review...

As for Famous Class:
"I’m a sucker for artwork. I’ll Be Lovin’ You comes packaged in an oversized booklet of hand drawn artwork that refuses to be lost in the sea of colorful side-labels that is your CD rack, mostly because it lacks not only the actual side-label, but the jewel case as well. And what’s embedded into the pitch-black CD?" - Michael Ardaiolo

As for Snakes:
"Syrupy synth hooks shimmy over a lo-fi drum machine and subdued guitar interplay while Ayers sings with conviction and playfulness, but he is low enough in the mix not too completely drown out the rest of their sound. I am completely impressed with the synth-pop duo and the small DIY upstart Famous Class; this album is ten times better than any of that Killers/Kasabian/(enter next hype-machine here) nonsense major labels piss away millions on to recreate a sound perfected 20 years ago." - Michael Ardaiolo

By the way, the show went great, we're all so glad everyone could come out. It was really more than we could ask for...

Amp Camp:Huxtables - "A Touch of Wonder"

Here are snips from the Ampcamp review...

As for the Huxtables:
"A humorous mix of sarcastic nostalgia, genuine interest and a modern experimental aesthetic - they would certainly appreciate their roots before they added their own unique blend of synthe, rock and exploratory electronics." - Amp Camp

And for the Album:
"...their album A Touch of Wonder proves the goofy twosome [Cyrus and Mark] put a whole lotta love, along with the laughter, into their funky mix of synthe pop, exploratory electronica, and indie rock. The Huxtables could easily fall into a cliche trap of camp: mockery by false gravity. And though they are often silly, there's nothing false about this album. They may be foolish at times, but they are always genuine. An authenticity and their sense of humor (there is in fact a kazoo on this album) make A Touch of Wonder a truly appealing record." - Amp Camp

Things are moving right along for Famous Class. With help from Terrorbird Media who are helping us begin promotion for the new Snakes! album...we'll also be making a documentary in the mean time created by Rubyfire which should be up on Youtube and everything else in the mean time...
